I have to say, I use to tell everybody to go buy meat at CANTERS. The last .8 weeks I spent more then $900.00. I was allways happy with them but sadley today not at all...... spent $170.00, WHAT A RIPOFF? Bought the bulk steak pack for 89.00. Bbq tonight....... wad the worse tuffest meat I ever eat. Gave it to my dog. All the meat packs thats in the freezer behind you, they use to ask 6.99 or 7.99 for the chicken wings, now its 9.00. Wall mart is evev cheaper then them . I really think they start getting greedy. So mad was a customer for 25 years, dont even think I will go back
I am a somewhat disabled customer with no way to get out & about. Cantors is a Godsend to me. IThey are curtious, helpful & pleasent to deal with.
They go the extra mile. Their products are also A1 & I know I can depend on them.
they totally rip off the disabled on a limited budget, once had to pay $7 for 2 heads of lettuce and then again today i had to pay outrageous prices on things AND they did not call me first BEFORE delivery as i requested
I have to say that they do have the most friendly front end staff. However the meat department staff are not as warm, I was being served one of the deli staff when she started talking to another customer instead of me. She also had to ask me several times for my order because I was not important enough to serve, I'm guessing because I don't speak Tagalo. The staff in the meat department are rude, if you are caucasian and your server is asian, beware you will be standing there longer then expected. They would rather speak to their coworkers and other asian customers. I also had a meat issue which I had to take up with the meat manager, he was quick to fix the meat problem. However when I spoke of his staff he could not be bothered. I mentioned this as I made my way to the cash register, and the lady at the register was an absolute delight. She listened to my complaint and agreed. I was informed that I was not the first to complain, that they recieve these daily about the deli staff. I was also informed that the front staff is under different management than the meat department. I would like to send koodos to the front manager, your staff are wonderful. It was nice to get a smile and understanding as I left the store.
gm i would rate cantors grocery as one the best in Winnipeg and their pork chops are best i have ever tasted ,i all ways ask for double loin, and their store is very clean ,i rate your store as 10 that in my books.your steaks are tops two very good and tender in my books i am now Handi capped ,my taste buds are there.thank you for your good service,Larry Lama
Used to love them. I agree with most. Nice Reno, brought quality for years. I've gone there for 20 years plus and I know my beef well enough that when I've dropped considerable coin on beef finger bones, mentioned it to the head guy, slowed roasted them for 5-7 hours with excited guests only to have to fire up the ol' husquavarna to get them off the bloody bone, I just bought my last rack.
I was patient, you've had your chance to make it right.
I will buy and age it myself thx
on my way to a bbq bought a 50.00 meat pack, was disgusted, 4 lbs of freezer burnt beef, was all snow! pork butt steak was cut so badly, quarter inch 1 side other 1 inch, also so many shards in it no one could enjoy it.same with the chicken.MY FRIENDS WHO SHOP THERE SAY IT ALL! NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN! OH AND WILL TELL ALL MY FRIENDS WHO DONT SHOP THERE! too. go to superstore much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you on several points, they leave alot of fat on their meat especially the chicken.
One time I bought a kilo of sliced roast beef and brought it home it smelt rotten, couldn't even bother returning it, just tossed it!
You have to watch their pork carefully because they have so much if it and occasionally slip a few day old pieces in it.
Watch also when they hand you the meat, I ordered a rib steaks and I was billed ribeye prices, honest mistake? Perhaps.
The meat is never aged, it's tough and too fresh, not for me.
But I shop there because I live down the street and can't be bothered going somewhere!
My boyfriend bought a couple ribeye steaks from there a couple months ago and they were by far the toughest steak I have ever tried to eat. Couldn't even stick your fork thru it! He just bought a box of meat there with ribeyes and new yorks steaks so we will see how that goes...
this place is sure changing from bad to worse!with ed running the business it is going down hill fast!they dont care about the customer, just the almighty dollar!they will nickel&dime you for everything.bad bad ed.
my family have been shopping there since it opened, many years ago,and it has always deserved it s reputation, for quality. my grandfather shopped there and now my grandchildren do as well. The staff through the years have varied , they hire a lot of students and young ones , they can be very inattentive and rude, but not all by any means.
i will say , that you have to keep a close eye , when phoning in an order ,the order takers and pickers are often, in some other world it seems , and it inconvenient for them to take your order or answer questions. with orders you never know what will be delivered , or how much it will cost you , and if you check your bills , frequently you will find that , there are errors.
reimbursement is rarely an issue though , it s just a lot of bother . i also suspect that the older produce is reserved for deliveries.
that all being said , the fish is excellent, the meats are quality and local , they have fresh mutton(find that anywhere else) and a wide selection of produce and products, oh and i didnt mention the wonderful cheeses ,cut to order, wrapped in wax paper, just delightful.
so i will give an excellent rating despite the phone in order dept, and suggest in store shopping if possible and being very firm with the ordering staff, if you must call in.always check your order bill and call immediately to the manager if there are errors , and they will sort it promptly.
i have been shopping at cantors for years even when i had my restaurant we used the meat . i had customers that said that they would never eat cantors meats, they did not know where we bought our meats lol. i also get a side of beef twice a year been doing this for at least 10 years with no problems . i am happy to see that they could finnal expand and increase there customer flow
there prices are great hope they have a long bussness venture . and to the others the people at the meat counter are the best. i would not deal with them if they were not.
Hi Mr Cantor. Greetings from England.I am a regular visitor to your store when i come to see my friends in Winnipeg.Last time I was in the old store the new one was nearly done.Glad to see it is now up and running. My friend Brian Burdy who was in your shop yesterday buying his meat(he was number 49) rang to tell me what a great new store you have and how good the meat still is.A trip to Winnipeg without having the full range of your fantastic meats would be like going to jail for ever.Hope you all continue to have great success and look forward to coming when I come on my next trip which will probably be in July 2010.
All good wishes, Dennis Marshall
We love Cantor's. The service is great and the meat is excellent. Joe & Oscar give service like the old days where the customer comes first. Guess that's why they've been in the business so long. Good luck in your new store. We'll see you there. Doug & Shirley
I've been going to shop at cantor's since I was knee high to my father. I still shop there, now over 40 years & still enjoy seeing Joe, Oscar & the staff. As far as I'm concerned the overall meat quality is excellent & reasonable & being able to choose what you want. As far as the butcher tasting the meat & letting the custmers sample the meat products is the best part of it. I guess the person who made a comment here likes to go & buy meat at Costco or the likes, where it's shipped all over the place, full of Ecoli & etc. At Cantor's meat comes in the back door into a fully operational preparation area & goes to the customers that go out the front door, going through less trucks, terminals, kilometers & hands too. The customers know the quality & valu, as do I! With plans to build a new store in the area this speaks volumes. They help lower income people live healthy by eating healthy. Where all the big grocery stores, banks, etc. are closing their opperations in the area, don't care 1 bit about these areas concidered lower income, when I & many would say the Cantor's does care. Bob
Meat is decent quality. Found the store in so-so shape, and the shelf items are generally in a clutter. Staff can be either extremely polite, or extremely rude at times. Overall, quality and price is very good.
Their meat counter employees do not all wear gloves. Some wear them on one had only. They interact wearing the same gloves with chicken products and other meat without changing their gloves. Some of the employees will eat cold cuts as they are slicing them for you, which is absolutely disgusting. Flys are predominant in the meat area in the summer months.
The beef meat products are not aged long enough and are generally tough. Some of the cut are Grade B and of course sold at a good price, but the quality is not there. Back ribs are previously frozen or still frozen at the time of purchase, but if not still frozen at the time of purchase, I have been told that they are fresh and have frozen them again, resulting in a substandard result.
Some of their meat employees are rude and look annoyed when asked for a different piece of meat, as opposed to the first choice at the top of the stack.
cantors is awesome! they got great meat, the people are always friendly, there qick to help, and always got a smile on there face. cantors onlt problem is there new manager mark! he is rude and very disrepectful to his employes. cantors has a reputaion for being a
