I took a friend to the Celtic Cross yesterday for lunch. The establishment was empty upon our arrival at 12:30… our reservation was quite unnecessary. We were met and served by a very pleasant and attentive staff member.
My friend had the fish tacos and I had the fish & chips luncheon special. The food was plentiful, hot and attractively presented although that was as good as it got. The generous portion of fish was coated with a thick batter that was more of a breading and held the grease. The batter and the fish were very bland. Part way into the fish, as I cut it with my knife, I could not cut through something mid-fish. The flesh fell away and I uncovered a long (5”) hard, rubbery “thing” that I could not cut with my knife and was completely unlike anything I’ve encountered in meal. I don’t know what it was, not fish, not fin, not bone. Striving to remain composed, I covered my plate with my napkin and four bites into my fish I was trying to keep from being sick. I wasn’t disappointed - I was disgusted.
Earlier, I had found the fries to be rather greasy, the coleslaw was without flavour and with a pinkish hue, and the tartar sauce was dry and darkening on its surface as though it had been sitting out and/or uncovered for quite some time.
I will never return and certainly cannot recommend the food.
